Sending Email from VB6 Legacy App on Windows 8

I am maintaining several legacy VB6 apps and have recently migrated the IDE to Windows 8. One of the apps uses the VBSendMail.dll to send emails out to clients. However, when the app runs it can't create the VBSendMail.clsSendMail object at run time. I thought this might be a registry problem but unfortunately I can't seem to register the component. When I enter regsvr32 "C:\windows\system32\vbsendmail.dll" the system responds that it is unable locate the DLL.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems ? Am I missing something obvious ?

Alternatively - does anyone have any recommendations for a VB6 compatible component for email that is also compatible with recent versions of Windows (ie Windows 7 and later) ?
